On Sunday we were headed back to Summerhayes and I must admit to still feeling really deflated after the previous day and I wasn’t up for this at all, especially as Sellicks hasn’t been fishing very well! There were 19 booked in for this one which wouldn’t do us any favours either.
With Pete holding the bucket of dreams/doom, I was hoping for a peg on the far side but wasn’t holding out much hope with the way my drawing arm is currently behaving but I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled out 21. I had Roy next door on 20 while Nick was pleased with peg 2 which has been really good recently.
I set up a 4×12 F1 Maggot for two lines at 11.5 metres and a little 0.1 gram Colmic Elsa for across to the island at 14.5 metres. On the side tray were the usual maggots and disco pinkies plus some Bait-Tech Special G F1 Dark groundbait.
Just before the start Roy went to get a coffee and brought me back one as well – cheers mate! After feeding all my lines I started at 11.5 metres with single pinkie but wasn’t expecting an instant response as the last silvers match I fished on Sellicks was hard going with only 7lb enough to win.
Kev O up on 19, had a carp early and when Roy lost a roach fishing over to the island, I had visions of it being better than I first expected. My first bite came after thirty minutes and I landed a decent skimmer to get off the mark. Moving to the left hand line, I had a roach and missed a bite and it felt like we were in for a good day.
Roy had a roach and not long after added a skimmer while Nick and Adie on the opposite bank were both landing carp. I did lose what felt like a decent fish shipping back and there was slime all up the line and a scale on the hook. My second skimmer came from the right hand line and then Roy had one as well.
As we reached the two hour mark, I’ve gone across to the island for the first time expecting to catch quite quickly but it’s just not happened. I did catch one roach and lost one but that was it. Another half an hour passed and I was just about to come back on the shorter lines when the float buried and I had another skimmer.
Then basically the whole lake switched off apart from Nick and Adie who were still catching carp and the odd skimmer. Quite a few people packed up early, I never had another silver and only hooked one carp all day while Roy had two more skimmers which would put him there or thereabouts.
By the all out, there weren’t many of us left to weigh in, Nick was first and had 5lb 4oz of silvers before his carp net went 51lb 9oz, Adie had some lumps and came close with 54lb 3oz. Zooner on peg 5 had 17lb of carp and a single 11oz skimmer so I got the nugget back I’d given him the previous day. Hollywood weighed 20lb 1oz and then Martin Addicott went into third spot with 29lb.
Big Bad Bob on 12 had 13lb 8oz, Steve Collins on 16 weighed two carp for 10lb 3oz and then there was nobody left until we got to Roy who went into the silvers lead with 5lb 15oz and then my three skimmers and two roach weighed 3lb 2oz which actually put me second by default.
1 – Nick Payne (Summerhayes) – 56lb 13oz
2 – Adie Bishop (Summerhayes) – 54lb 3oz
3 – Martin Addicott (Summerhayes) – 29lb
Silvers
1 – Roy Hughes (Summerhayes) – 5lb 15oz
2 – Jamie Rich (Bait-Tech/Colmic) – 3lb 2oz
3 – Jess Jordan (Summerhayes) – 11oz
I picked up £30 for second in the silvers which was more than welcome after another tough day.
Thanks to pounds off Dan T and Zooner, The Nugget-O-Meter reached £520 and continues to climb steadily.
