It was back to Summerhayes the following day and I couldn’t quite believe it when I drew out 33 again but I definitely wasn’t complaining! The lake was flat calm so I’d actually be able to fish longer than top two plus two today and the lovely Zooner was on the next peg so I’d be able to keep a close eye on how my nugget was looking.
I set up a little 0.1 gram Colmic Elsa for top two plus two and a 0.2 gram Bobbie for 11.5, 13 and 14.5 metres towards the island. The usual side tray with lots of maggots, disco pinkies and some Bait-Tech Special G F1 Dark groundbait.
On the whistle I fed the short lines and 11.5 metres with nuggets of groundbait and a few pinkies before pinging a few maggots across. It was a slow start and my first bite after ten minutes resulted in a carp. I also lost a carp and it was 40 minutes before I had a roach! It was a similar story for Zooner while Adie who was on 9 (directly in my eye line) flew out the blocks netting several skimmers and little tench.
Steve Collins and Nick on my left were catching carp regularly but after an hour nobody I could see (with the exception of Adie) was catching much in the way of silvers. I tried starting a new line at top five but never had a bite. Moving to 11.5 metres I had a few fish but it was short lived and it was the same at 13 and 14.5 metres, a real struggle.
I did have a nice 10oz tench which was a bit of a bonus and I’m pretty sure I lost either another tinca or a crucian but only had it on briefly. At the all out, I thought I only had around 2lb and I couldn’t believe how hard it had been for the majority although Adie had caught steadily all day.
Glynn on 38 was first to weigh and had 1lb 3oz of silvers, McKenzie and Big Bad Bob on Cyanide Straight had chucked back, Dan T weighed 2lb 12oz, Martin Addicott on 7 had 35lb 4oz of mainly carp and then Adie had a lovely net of fish for 11lb 3oz.
Rob Wylde on 13 had 40lb 6oz of carp and 2lb 2oz of silvers to go into the overall lead (and second in the silvers), Paul Homewood had 28lb 2oz, Kev O didn’t weigh on 17, Hollywood had 23lb 11oz and Rob Birch weighed 1lb 3oz of silvers on 21.
Jim J on 24 had 18lb 2oz, Rog C weighed 13oz of silvers, Bill H had six small skimbobs for 1lb 6oz and Craig L weighed 37lb 8oz of carp on 30. Zooner had 1lb 12oz and then my fish went 3lb 15oz which surprisingly put me second in the silvers!
Steve ‘Preston’ Collins had done well dobbing his way to 69lb 9oz of carp and then Nick had once again joined the dark side to finish second with 51lb 6oz. Photo credit – Steve Collins*

I picked up £30 for second in the silvers which was very welcome as I thought I’d blown right out today!
£2 each from Nick P and me, and pounds from Craig and Zooner took the Nugget-O-Meter to £69.
