On Saturday it was Foxy’s latest match at Acorn with the usual full house of 28 anglers, draw time arrived and I was happy enough with peg 25 by the new-ish concrete bridge on the far side as its been producing some decent silvers weights.
I set up a couple of Preston Innovations F1 Maggots to fish two lines at 11.5 metres and top two plus two and a little 0.2 gram rig with strung shot to fish through the water across at 13 metres. Lots of maggots, disco pinkies and Bait-Tech Special G F1 Dark groundbait were on the menu for today.
On the whistle I fed all my lines before starting across pinging maggots and was getting some decent ide along with a couple of skimmers but was already behind Kev Perry on 27 who was catching well. Switching to the 11.5 metre line, it took a while to get a bite and I pulled out of what felt like a decent fish. Next chuck I had a lovely 4lb tench followed by a small one but it was short lived so tried to my left where I’d been big potting maggots and had a few ide but was waiting ages for bites.
At the two and a half hour mark, I’ve had my first look on the short line where I’d been feeding maggots since the start and it was a bit of an anti-climax with just a couple of ide. Rotating around my lines I was getting odd fish but couldn’t seem to string more than a couple of bites together on one line before having to move.
With 45 minutes left I started to notice the odd blow on the top four line and decided to spend the remaining time short, I was getting quite a few indications and had a nice finish catching two big tench, a smaller one along with a couple of decent skimmers and I also landed my only carp of the match.
As the scales got round to us Kev had a nice net of silvers for 30lb 1oz and then my fish went 35lb 7oz and my single carp added 2lb 4oz. Back at the results and there had been some fantastic silvers weights with Tony Whitcomb winning with 54lb 4oz from peg 40 and Mark Broomsgrove had 42lb 12oz on 33. Walshy had the top weight on the day with an excellent 155lb 1oz from peg 4.
