Summerhayes – 25th April 2021

The next Stoke match was on Longs at Summerhayes and it generated lots of interest with 23 anglers booking in. A few of us met at Greggs in Bridgwater (my third different one in as many weeks!) before we headed to the fishery in convoy with Mr Parker in the lead. We turned right coming out of the services which was fine

Summerhayes – Open – 5th April 2021

My third match in four days and I must admit I was starting to flag a little as I struggled to get my ancient aching bones out of bed! I stopped off at Greggs but it wasn’t open so had to settle for a bacon roll over at Costa, so not the best start and I hoped it wasn’t an omen! It

Summerhayes – Open – 2nd April 2021

Even though it’s only been three months (just like the old closed season), it’s felt like a lifetime but match fishing is finally back! It was starting to look like matches would resume from 29th March, so with Easter weekend coming up, I booked into Summerhayes on Good Friday and the Monday with an Ilminster match at Dillington on the Sunday. I

Summerhayes – Charlie Barnes Memorial Match – 17th October 2020

Two matches this weekend that I was really looking forward to, Charlie’s Memorial at Summerhayes on Saturday and then Ilminster v Stoke on the Isle the following day. Charlie’s match is silvers only and one I would love to do well in, although I’ve really struggled to avoid the carp this year which I’m sure Charlie would find very amusing! Up early,

Summerhayes – Open – 16th August 2020

It was back to Summerhayes and Longs on Sunday and after the last match where I’d struggled on 33, I was hoping to avoid the 30’s and maybe have a change of scenery down on the bottom bank which seems to be the place to draw for silvers at the moment. I met Steve ‘The Pole’, Terry ‘The Toast’ and ‘Bombardier’ Payne

Summerhayes – Open – 2nd August 2020

I booked me and Steve P in for our first match here for a while and the day got off to a great start with a cracking breakfast at the bowling club (thanks to Drew and Julie for looking after us). Arriving at the venue it was nice to see some faces I hadn’t seen for a while although there was a

Summerhayes – Open – 14th June 2020

I’d finally managed to get care sorted on a Sunday for dad but then I couldn’t find a match to fish! I messaged/phoned every venue I could think of and they were either full up or not running matches yet but then Roy H came to the rescue when he said he’d organise one at Summerhayes. It filled up quickly with 21

Summerhayes – Champion of Champions Silvers Final – 29th September 2019

I think these ‘All Winners’ style matches are a great idea, they create a real buzz with lots of people trying to qualify and there’s usually a decent prize pot. This is the third year I’ve qualified and it’s a match I’d love to win, although so far, fifth is the best I’ve managed. The forecast for Saturday night and Sunday was

Summerhayes – Charlie Barnes Memorial Match – 21st September 2019

I don’t fish very many Saturdays but when I saw it was Charlie’s memorial match at Summerhayes I put my name down as I love fishing Longs and it would be silvers only. Charlie was a legend, loved by everyone and like many of those there, he enjoyed fishing for silvers and viewed carp as vermin! There was a great turnout with

Summerhayes – Open – 26th August 2019

On Bank Holiday weekends Pete always runs two matches where the pools are split equally between carp and silvers which I think is a great idea. A quick pit stop for a ‘Billy No Mates’ breakfast at the Toby before heading to Bridgwater. It was supposed to be another boiling hot day but as I pulled into the car park, it was
